Taking place Sept. 14, 2022, in New York
LOS ANGELES — City of Hope, one of the largest cancer research and treatment organizations in the United States and a leading research center for diabetes, HIV and other life-threatening illnesses, announced today the inaugural Sound of Hope event, taking place on Sept. 14, 2022, at Brooklyn Steel in New York to support City of Hope’s compassionate, lifesaving cancer and diabetes research and treatment. The event will feature a special performance by Mercury Records recording artists AJR and Chelsea Cutler.
Sound of Hope brings together City of Hope’s Music, Film and Entertainment Industry group with Republic Records founders, chief executives and brothers Monte and Avery Lipman for a special evening featuring musical performances by artists from Republic Records’ imprint Mercury Records.
The goal is to raise support and awareness of City of Hope’s mission to continue to conduct innovative research and provide leading-edge, lifesaving treatments for people diagnosed with cancer and diabetes. Monte and Avery Lipman will also be honored at City of Hope’s 2022 Spirit of Life® Gala in Los Angeles on Oct. 27, 2022. The Sound of Hope event kicks off a big week of fundraising for City of Hope, preceding the previously announced Taste of Hope event on Sept. 15.
Referencing the event, AJR said, “We couldn’t be more thrilled to perform at the first Sound of Hope, supporting City of Hope’s continued research to improve the lives of so many patients around the world. Monte and Avery have given so much of their time and resources to supporting this incredible organization through the years, and we were honored to be invited to join them for this special occasion.”
Cutler added, “I am so honored and grateful to City of Hope, Monte and Avery for the opportunity to perform at the very first Sound of Hope event. City of Hope is such a great organization and does such important work, from research to treatment and more. I’m excited to be a part of their efforts.”

About AJR
As brothers and as a band, AJR — Adam, Jack, and Ryan Met — complement one another in perfect harmony on and off-stage. This harmony courses through their inimitable, irresistible and imaginative alternative pop uplifted by expansive vision, epic instrumentation and the kind of hooks you can’t shake. It’s why the group has generated billions of streams across triple-platinum smashes “Bang!” and “Weak” as well as the double-platinum “Burn The House Down” and platinum singles “100 Bad Days,” “Sober Up” and “I’m Ready.” It’s why they’ve landed back-to-back Top 10 debuts on the Billboard Top 200 with Neotheater [2019] and OK Orchestra [2021]. It’s why they consistently sell out arenas with their Broadway-worthy live show. It’s why (like something out of a movie) they made the jump from their living room to late-night television. It’s why they’ve quietly stretched the boundaries and definition of what popular music can be in 2022 and continue to do so with the recent release of “I Won’t” off their forthcoming full-length debut for AJR Productions/Mercury Records/ Republic Records.
About Chelsea Cutler
Instantly relatable lyrics and handcrafted lo-fi soundscapes have established Chelsea Cutler as a quiet, yet disruptive, force for popular music. Within a few short years, the singer, songwriter, and producer went from bedroom-constructed uploads to 2 billion-plus cumulative streams and acclaim from Billboard, Variety, The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, E! News, PAPER Magazine, Cosmopolitan, Refinery29, UPROXX, Consequence, HYPEBAE, L’Officiel and more. In 2017, her breakthrough single “Your Shirt” paved the way for her debut EP, Snow In October. Leaving college shortly after, she hit the road alongside Quinn XCII at the top of 2018 before kicking off a prolific string of releases, including the independently released mixtapes Sleeping with Roses and Sleeping with Roses II, leading to two completely sold-out nationwide headline tours in 2018 and 2019 and appearances at Governors Ball, Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza and more. Signing to Republic Records in 2019, she uncovered undeniable chemistry with Jeremy Zucker on the collaborative brent EP, which spawned the platinum single “you were good to me.” Honing her style further, she unveiled her 2020 debut album, How To Be Human, featuring the breakout single “Sad Tonight.” Bringing the new music to fans across the country, she launched the sold-out “How To Be Human Tour” in early 2020, highlighted by two consecutive sellouts at Terminal 5 in New York City. In 2021, she reteamed with Zucker on the brent ii EP and notched another fan favorite anthem with “this is how you fall in love.” Along the way, the likes of Quinn XCII, Louis The Child, The Band CAMINO and Noah Kahan all teamed up with her for collaborations. In between, she lit up television with performances on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” “The Late Late Show with James Corden,” “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” and “Today,” and she hit the road with Quinn XCII on their co-headline “Stay Next To Me Tour.” Most recently, Cutler kicked off her latest chapter with her sophomore album, When I Close My Eyes, out now. Following the critically acclaimed release, she embarked on her “When I Close My Eyes Tour” and made her debut performance at Coachella.
